One good medium for finding suitable attractions in your holiday destination is TripAdvisor, which gives rankings for example of "things to do" and place to eat. However, as with any rankings (for example of universities) they aren't subjective to you. So it's a good idea to check out a few criteria before deciding to visit the attraction.
My criteria: cost, what to see, what to do, how long (to spend there), location, opening hours)
In addition, it's a good idea to read reviews (for example on TripAdvisor) to, for example, get some tips on what to look out for, available tours, booking tickets etc.

Here are the top 3 "Things to Do" in Budapest (acc. to TripAdvisor)

#1 Hungarian Parliament Building

What to see: neo-gothic and neo-romanesque style terrace, Matthias church, views of Danube river, city and parliament building.
Cost: 400 huf (1,30 euro) to get to higher places/top
Tips: Visit nearby sites: National Gallery, cable car, the royal palace, the labyrinth and coronation church.
Location: Budapest, Szentháromsag tér, 1014 Hungary.


#3 St Steven's Basilica



What to do: organ concert (Monday 03.07 17:00), tour
Cost (concert): 3000 huf (9,80 euro)*2

What to see: roman clatholic basilica of the neoclassical style, featuring stain glass windows and several bells (including the largest in Hungary)
Cost (observation dock): 500 huf (1,60 euro) for observation deck

Tips: view of whole city, big square leading to bars, restaurants and cafes
